Using Contexts

Contexts (formerly called Views) in voo2do are groups of projects and tasks. You can use contexts to:
  • separate out your projects for home and work
  • divide tasks for different teams or clients
  • track work for different places or moods
Each context you create will have a set of projects; tasks you create within those projects will be visible in that context automatically. You can also move a task to a specific context using the menu. Contexts apply to all the tabs in voo2do, so it's almost like having separate voo2do accounts for each context, only more flexible and easier to manage. The dashboard shows an overview of tasks organized by context, and other tabs can show one context at a time.

You may have noticed a drop-down box on the tasks, projects, notes, deadlines, and history pages:

This lets you change your currently selected view. When a view is selected, you see only the projects in that view. If all tasks is selected, there is no filtering. If you're on the tasks page and have all tasks selected, you'll see all incomplete tasks— possibly a lot of stuff.

To create a new view, select new view... from the drop-down. First give it a name:

In the next window, select some projects to include in this view.
Then click Save, and you're done. You can edit this list later by selecting the view in the drop-down and clicking customize.

Additional Tips

How do I move a project to a different context?

You can move a project between contexts using the "Customize Context" dialog box. Moving a project to a different context entails two steps:
  1. remove the project from its current context
  2. add it to the desired context.

For example, say you want to move the project "reading" from the Work context to Home. First, activate the Work context by selecting it in the context drop-down. Then click the "customize" button to the right of the drop-down. This will display settings for the Work context.

In the Customize Contexts dialog, scroll down to the "Projects in this context" listing and un-check the reading project. Then click the Save button. This closes the customize context dialog box.

Now select the destination context (Home) in the context drop-down. Then click "customize" and check the box next to the "reading" project. Scroll down and click the Save button, and the project should now appear in the Home context, but not in the Work context.

We know this is way too complicated, and we'll look into adding a "change contexts" feature on the project page in the future.
